Square Loop Radiation Field (E-Plane)

Below is the plot of the data I collected for a single square loop. The test jig is a short tower that was rotated by a stepper motor so that I could stay stationary to make the measurements. The controller would rotate the tower in 18o increments and then key an HT for 5 seconds before going to the next angle.
Antenna height 5 feet
Measurement distance 20 feet
Measurement equipment Radio Shack field strength meter

The direction of the strongest lobe is in the direction of the gamma-match (opposite the gap).

Here is a picture of my test jig. On the piece of wood is mounted the tower assembly which has a fairly large stepper motor, a small PC power supply, and the controller board. The controller board has an Atmel ATMega103 microcontroller, motor stepper drivers, a couple of MOSFETS and other miscellaneous parts. Basically the only connections to it are power, a serial line I use for control, a cable to the stepper motor, and a cable that goes to the HT PTT line. Not shown is the HT.
